Baltic Block Expands Green Energy Production with a New Solar Park
We have expanded our green energy production by commissioning a new solar power plant next to our production site in Madona Municipality.
The electricity generated by the solar park is primarily used to power our production processes, increasing the share of self-produced renewable energy. As a result, we expect to reduce our CO₂ emissions by 218 tonnes each year.
In our daily operations, we use 100% green electricity produced in Latvia and generated exclusively from renewable energy sources. Of our total electricity consumption, 65% comes from our own cogeneration plant, 9% is generated by the new solar power plant, and 26% is purchased from external suppliers. The solar power plant has been in operation for less than a year, and its share of our total electricity consumption is expected to increase over time.
For us at Baltic Block, sustainability is a fundamental principle guiding all our operations. This investment strengthens our commitment to environmentally friendly and energy-independent production while contributing to cleaner energy use in Latvia.
The solar power plant project was implemented between April 2024 and June 2025 and carried out by our subsidiary, Betula Premium.
The project was co-financed by NextGenerationEU and ALTUM under the National Development Plan 2027. The total project cost is slightly over EUR 2 million, of which approximately 29% is co-financed by the European Union.
